How New Writers Get Published

If you dropped in here to read this article, you have probably already tried to get your work published without meeting much success. Or, it could be that you don’t have a clue about how to get your work published.

Either way, this article will give you some hints about how you can increase your chances of getting your work published as a new writer.

• Practice a lot of patience and determination – Publishing is no joke and even the bestselling authors who have sold millions of copies might have initially seen their material rejected by hundreds of publishing houses. You have to remember that a rejection does not necessarily mean that a publishing house does not like your article. It could just mean that they never got around to looking at it. In fact, out of a 100 queries that you submit to various publishing houses, only about 20 of them might really look at your work. Out of those 20, you might get one interested response. You can easily get dejected with just one response from a 100 queries but you have to understand that your success rate is actually 1 out of 20, for the reasons given above. That positive attitude will allow you to keep trying with various publishing houses until something clicks in your favor.

• Establish credibility – New writers who manage to get their work published usually would have created some sort of credibility for themselves. You can create credibility by having a following on your online blog or by getting your work reviewed by a book reviewer or a book critique. Anything to suggest to the publishing house that you have a track record in writing will help your cause. Also, include any awards or merits that you might have won at writing contests.

• Preparing a great cover letter – The cover letter that you send with your work is the biggest selling point for you. It has to be concise and appealing and will have to spark an interest in the mind of the publisher to look at your work more closely. Also, go over the first 20 or so pages of your work to make sure that it is free of errors and well edited. A potential publisher will usually only read the first few pages of your work and you will greatly increase your chances if you have quality content that is error free.

As you can see from the article above, there are no secrets to answer the question about how new writers get published. It just takes hard work and a lot of patience and persistence.
